AP2 Update: October 2024 (Also Supernatural S1 Review)

AP 2 Draft 4, Chapter 32: COMPLETE.

For safe transit you must deal.

Two passengers’ quick reveal.

One rider is bared at the first’s behest.

The end of their ride leads to a pierced chest.

There’s a big change in this chapter: I’m bringing in two characters that weren’t in the first three drafts! Is it reckless? Is it mad!?

I was worried, so I ran it by Kim in a lengthy email.

She approved it all! Very nice! 🤩

And if you’re a fan of ‘that character,’ then you should be very excited! 😉

Book Cover News: I talked to my ex-girlfriend’s daughter again. Sorry to be so vague with the people involved, but most parents seem to get angry when I use their family’s real names on here. It’s almost as if they don’t want to be associated with me! Imagine that!

Anyway, she agreed to paint the scene I wanted; she just needed some details cleared up. Seems that in the paragraphs-long description I sent her, I forgot to mention what color the main feature of the cover was. Whoops.

She also needed to know something about the general shape of a building, and she told me to ‘draw a quick sketch’ of what I wanted it to look like. Yeah, as if I can draw squat.🤣

So instead of sketching, I spent the next fifteen minutes constructing a model of the building out of Silly Putty, Sticky Tack, a Post-it Note, and a paperweight. Then I put it on top of my toaster oven and took a picture on my smartphone.

She understood what I meant. This cover is going to be really amazing! 😉

Okay, let’s review some stuff. It’s Halloween month, so it’s time for something somewhat spooky. I DO NOT like being scared, though. So let’s do CW-scary, shall we?

Supernatural Season 1: Yes, it’s finally time. Remember the author I mentioned earlier in the year? The one I met at church with the Titanic book? She recently purchased a house, and I went to her house-warming party. I got her a cactus.

Anyway, during my tour of the ‘environs’ I noticed that she had a bunch of Supernatural stuff hanging up. (A picture of her meeting one of the actors, for instance.)

I asked her how the show was. She said it was amazing, as I should have guessed from the giant posters in the room. I made it clear that I don’t like scary things, and she assured me that the show wasn’t too frightening. A little more so than Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I have seen.

So I started it up! I won’t go through every episode. Most of this first season is ‘monster-of-the-week’ stuff anyway.

The story begins: with two brothers. Their names are Dean and Sam Winchester, and their mother was killed by a demon when they were little kids. Such a familiar tale, but it gives the boys motivation to hunt evil across the mid-west United States.

They drive around in some sort of black car with a trunk full of weapons: an arsenal of goodies that can defeat all manner of ghosts, cryptids, and monsters.

Off-hand I recall them hunting a wendigo, Bloody Mary, and the urban legend ‘Hook Hand’ killer. That last one had some nice practical effects, and I’m glad that the ‘early 2000’s’ CGI is kept to a minimum. (When the CGI is used, it’s pretty cheesy. An episode about swarms of ‘Ancient Indian Burial Ground Bugs’ comes to mind.)

The best episodes involve the main ‘arc’ of the season, where the brothers’ father is missing. Turns out he’s investigating a demon—the very one that killed their mother! 😲

They do eventually meet up with their dad a few times, but the real fun is saved for the back half of the season. It involves a magical Colt handgun: forged by Colt himself on the night of Haley’s Comet! This weapon, along with twelve mystic bullets, can kill ANYthing that it shoots. (I love this kind of creativity. Even if it sounds a bit silly typing it out.) 😂

And the target is THAT demon. No, they don’t name the demon that killed their mother. Kind of annoying. The only demon that gets a name is a woman named Meg. She is the daughter of ‘the Demon’ and she shows up as the main antagonist for most of the ‘arc related’ episodes.

The final episode of the season was a cliffhanger where the crew is left with ONE magic bullet and ‘the Demon’ supposedly killing the bros and their dad by possessing a guy in a semi truck and ramming their black car.

Not sure how they’ll get out of this one, but I have the remaining fourteen seasons on Netflix ready to go! Yes, that’s right. FOURTEEN MORE SEASONS. 😵

I’m looking at all this wondering how it’s possible. Surely they’ll run out of legendary monsters to kill before then? They mentioned Spring-heeled Jack once. I had a ‘Monster in my Pocket’ action figure of that guy. So that’s one episode.

See you next time! Wait, how long is Abandonment Party 2 anyway!? Shouldn’t I be almost done!? 🤨
